MNSHINE and Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute

Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) is a key technical partner to MNSHINE. HHRI brings research, data, and healthcare system expertise that shapes how MNSHINE measures and reports on health care quality, and it serves as a core bridge to our work with the Minnesota Electronic Health Record Consortium (MNEHRC).

Modernizing measurement and reporting

HHRI is informing the modernization of MNSHINE’s measurement and reporting through the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model. OMOP is a widely used standard that organizes clinical data in a consistent way, so it can be analyzed reliably across organizations.

Connecting providers to research

Together, MNSHINE and HHRI are developing a strategy that uses MNSHINE’s health information exchange (HIE) infrastructure to bring clinical data from small and mid-sized providers into a shared, community-based OMOP environment through interoperable methods. This approach is designed to serve two purposes:

•     Strengthening MNSHINE’s measurement and reporting through the OMOP Common Data Model.

•     Making it easier for participating providers to engage in MNEHRC research and public health projects, with MNSHINE’s support.
